On September 29th, residents of Guizhou's Panzhou city looked up in shock at an apparent high-wire act that seemed to be going wrong -- likely because, as it turns out, the man was not a professional tightrope walker, but simply some extremely daring cheapskate.

In order to avoid paying for his room at a high-rise hotel the man decided to escape -- and what better way than by climbing outside and making your way to the building across the street via telephone wires?

Not surprisingly, he didn't actually make it, becoming tangled up in the wires, stuck in the air about 19 stories above the street below, where passersby happened to notice him.

Firefighters were able to rescue the man. Reportedly, he was lucky not to have been killed by nearby high-voltage wires -- also by falling to the ground.

It's not clear if the man did actually end up avoiding paying for his hotel bill thanks to this stunt, but we'd like to think so.
